Um novo estudo do Conselho de Pesquisa Econômico e Social (ESRC) do Reino Unido revelou que profissionais TI não conseguem oferecer benefícios reais às escolas. Mesmo com o investimento do governo inglês beirando US$ 2 bilhões no setor, poucos professores usam todo o potencial do computador nas salas de aulas, de acordo com a pesquisa da ESRC.
O Professor Rosamund Sutherland, líder da pesquisa, disse que os benefícios da tecnologia foram "aquém do esperado". A pesquisa cobriu 10 instituições e exploraram como a tecnologia foi usada em matérias como história e matemática. A conclusão foi que muitos professores não conseguem usar todo o potencial da tecnologia pra tornar o aprendizado mais efetivo.
A furious backlash has erupted in response to a damning report by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) which claims that IT has failed to deliver benefits to schools. Despite the government's £1bn commitment to increase the use of information technology in schools, few teachers make full use of computers in the classroom, according to the ESRC funded research.
Professor Rosamund Sutherland, who led the research, said that the benefits of IT were "over promised and under delivered". The research covered 10 institutions and explored how ICT is used in English, history, geography, modern languages, science, music and mathematics. It concluded that many teachers lack the confidence in the technology needed to make learning more effective.
