Instituto Gartner: 'Ignorem o Longhorn e fiquem com o Windows XP SP2'

De acordo com o instituto Gartner, a Microsoft pode não mais lançar o WinFS após confirmar a sua eliminação do Longhorn.

O recente anuncio de que o WinFS seria lançado como um add-on para o Longhorn, Windows XP e Windows 2003 faz com que o Longhorn se transforme apenas um espaço para ocupar um vazio, segundo relatório do Gartner para clientes. O instituto afirma também que as companhias devem manter e se estabilizar usando o Windows XP SP2.

Microsoft Corp. may choose never to release its vaunted and long-overdue project WinFS, following its removal from the next version of Windows, according to analysts Gartner Inc.

The recent announcement that WinFS would not debut in Longhorn after all -- following a warning this spring that features would be axed -- makes Longhorn look increasingly like a product intended to simply fill in a gap in the schedule, Gartner said in a research note to customers. However, the firm is sticking with its recommendation that companies standardize on Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), so that they have a choice to shift to Longhorn if it turns out to be worthwhile.
